Skills required to work in a Japanese company

Read this article to study Japanese and get JLPT N1

It is very difficult for foreigners to get a job offer from a Japanese company and to work in Japan.

There are mainly two concerns that companies have when hiring foreigners, why foreigners can’t work for Japanese companies.

Because of Japanese lanuguage.

② Cpmpany have never hired a foreigner before, so they don’t know how to deal with general affairs such as visas.

Companies that have hired foreigners in the past, large companies that have branches overseas, etc., have jobs that are perfect for them.

In addition, the adoption rate of foreigners is high because they are accustomed to applying for visas.

However, given the current situation, there are many companies that have not yet hired foreigners.

And in most cases, even though they knows that they are excellent talents, they do not reach the point of being hired.

Of course, it is possible for foreigners to work for a Japanese company (change jobs).

In this article, I will explain in detail how to work for a Japanese company, so please read to the end.

How to work in Japan

(1) Raise your Japanese level and take N1

It is written in the job postings of Japanese companies that foreigners will be hired, but in fact, more than 90% of companies have foreigners who have N1.

In particular, manufacturers such as Toyota and Hitachi require Japanese language proficiency above N1.

N1 and above: A foreigner whose nationality is other than Japan and who has spent his or her education up to junior high school in Japan.

In order to work at a Japanese company, it is necessary to appeal in Japanese during the interview process your own skills and how you can contribute to the company.

If you can’t speak Japanese, you won’t be able to present yourself in an interview, and as a result, you’ll end up being rejected.

Even if you don’t have the skills that companies are looking for or have a lot of practical experience, if you have a high level of Japanese, you can get a high job offer rate.

In other words, companies place more emphasis on Japanese language proficiency than skills and experience when hiring.

If you are in your 20s and still young, and your skills and experience are less than 3 years old, study Japanese and get N1.

The human resources companies are looking for are as follows.

(Young)
Those who are in my twenties, and have less than three years of experience.

(Mid-career)
Those who have N3-N2 for more than 5 years of experience before the age of 30

(Experienced)
Those who are over 35 years of experience Foreigners with more than 10 years of N3-N4 experience

If you’re still in your twenties and you’re still young and have little experience, take N1 anyway.

If you are over the age of 35, you should hone your skills and acquire management skills.

(2) Sharpen your skills

I have told Japanese companies that they place importance on the Japanese language level, but that is the case when hiring young people.

In the case of Mid-career, they will check their skills intensively.

Even if you can’t speak Japanese well at N3 level, you will be hired if you have more than 5 years of experience and high skills.

In particular, technical jobs such as engineers require more experience and skills than Japanese.

If the value is high, it may be adopted.

The older you get, the more difficult it becomes to remember something new.

If you can’t speak Japanese very well, you should thoroughly hone your skills.

If you are good at Japanese, take N1.

If you are not good at Japanese, let’s improve your skills.

It’s up to you which one to strengthen.

If you are good at Japanese, let’s get N1.

Of course, make sure you can read and write.

You can also apply for inexperienced job openings with a high level of Japanese, and you can change careers.

If you acquire a certain amount of skills, you will become a bilingual human resource, and your market value will be higher than that of Japanese people.

If you are not good at Japanese, let’s hone your skills thoroughly.

Don’t just hone your skills, hone the skills that Japanese companies are looking for.

If you are a mechanical designer, you can design the auto parts that are in high demand. Find out if you have one and hone your skills accordingly.

How to increase the job offer rate

Next, I will tell you how to increase the job offer rate.

Get a job offer in a strategic way.

(1) Apply for a proactive job at the labor shortage industry.

In the first place, the reason why companies hire foreigners rather than Japanese people is that even if they send out a job offer, no applicants will come.

There are not enough people, so foreigners are recruiting people to make up for it.

For example, working at night shifts at convenience stores, working at factories, working at construction sites, etc.

The reason is that Japanese people do not apply to those industries.

But this is your chance.

Because of the lack of manpower, the hiring rate is relatively high.

If you apply for a job that Japanese people don’t work in, you’ll find a job right away.

Working in a factory may be tough at first, but if you work long hours, you will be promoted to a full-time employee.

You can also take care of your work, and by improving your career, you can increase your annual income at the next job change.

(2) Work as a temporary employee of a temporary agency.

Working at a temporary agency is the best way for foreigners to work. Most foreigners are affiliated with a temporary staffing agency.

This is because dispatch companies have a lot of job openings for foreigners to work in.

Even N3 level may be adopted.

In fact, dispatch companies can work as full-time employees by signing a direct employment contract at the client’s destination.

Direct employment for foreigners such as Toyota, which is popular among foreigners, and for office work, etc., is quite difficult because it requires Japanese language level N1 or higher and considerable skills.

However, if you work in a temporary agency, you can improve your skills because you can work at a large company that you normally would never work at.

If you would like to work for a large company that does not normally hire foreigners, or if you would like to work with a highly skilled Japanese engineer, then you should work in the temporary staffing agency.

(3) Use a career change agent.

Career change agents have many job vacancies that foreigners can apply for.

There are also many private job openings that are not listed on the job posting site.

We don’t just introduce jobs, we offer a wide variety of services free of charge.

We will create a resume and job history record

② Appeal to the company instead of the applicant

③ You can also practice interviews

④ We also help you negotiate your salary and the day you join the company.

If you do not receive a job offer even if you apply on your own, try consulting with a career change agent.

You can get a variety of advice, so you can change jobs in an average of 1-2 months.
