What happens if you repeatedly change jobs in a short period of time?

Read this article to study Japanese and get JLPT N1

After applying to several companies and going through interviews, I finally got a job offer.

I actually tried working there, but it was different from what I thought it would be.

Only 3 month have passed since I changed jobs, but I want to change jobs again…

By changing jobs, your annual income will increase, and you will be able to get a job that you like, but some people fail on the other hand.

If you have failed in a job change, there are many people who regret why they changed jobs, or who want to go back to their previous job.

I will explain in detail the rules in Japan, such as whether it is okay to quit immediately after changing jobs, how many months should be the minimum after changing jobs, and whether you should not change jobs. .

Please don’t worry even if you failed a lot in changing jobs.

If you continue to work on changing jobs, you will inevitably find your next job.

And you can meet a better company than now.

When is the best time to change jobs after changing jobs?

It is said that if you change jobs to a new company, you should stay at the company for at least one year.

In Japan, it is common sense to work for 1 company for 3 years.

Now that we are in the Reiwa(令和), some people are working at a venture company, starting their own company, or changing jobs repeatedly to advance their careers.

The reason why it is necessary to work for three years is that Japanese companies don’t hire people who resign a company repeatedly in a short period of time.

Again, Japanese companies do not hire people who repeatedly leave their jobs for a short period of time.

When a company wants to hire someone, it spends a huge amount of money on recruiting.

It is said that hiring a single person can cost as little as 3 million yen.

Even if they spend 3 million yen to hire someone, the company will be at a loss if he/she quits after a year.

Why does recruiting work cost so much money?

Recruitment activities have the following costs.

・Fees for posting job postings on paid job posting sites

・At the time of hiring, pay the service fee to career change agent.

・Personnel expenses for personnel recruiters

If you’ve been repeatedly short-term resignation, you have a risk of being refused to hire the next company, thinking that you’ll quit immediately even if they try to hire you.

If recruitment activities cost 3 million yen, they will preferentially hire human resources who will work for a long time, such as 5 to 10 years.

For these reasons, Japanese companies do not hire people who repeatedly leave their jobs for a short period of time.

In some cases, we recommend changing jobs.

In overseas companies, it is normal to work for 1 to 3 years and then change jobs to the next company to improve your skills.

Unfortunately, in Japan, people who repeatedly leave their jobs after a short period of time are not evaluated highly at all.

As you can see in the job postings of companies, there are conditions such as [the number of times you can change jobs up to 4 times.

If you change jobs more than 4 times, you won’t even pass the document screening.

However, depending on the situation, there are companies you should resign without working for a year.

In the following cases, we recommend that you change jobs as soon as possible.

① If you are working at a evil companies

② If you don’t improve your skills at all

I will explain each one in detail.

① If you are working at a evil companies

For example, when you change jobs to a bad company, you have to do overtime for 200 hours a month.

Working on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays is exhausting. If I continue like this, I will become depressed.

If your work is mentally demanding, or if you are working for a company that is involved in illegal labor, we recommend that you consult with your company or change jobs.

(2) If you don’t improve your skills at all

If it is completely different between the job description explained in the interview and the actual job description, please consult with the company.

If there is still no room for change, try changing jobs.

For example, let’s say that the person who applied for a job is an IT engineer, and during the interview, he was told that the job description is developing softwares.

When the job offer came out, despite the fact that I was introduced to the work of an IT person, when I actually joined the company, I was a clerical worker who had absolutely nothing to do with IT.

Of course, there may be cases where the company has various circumstances such as being in charge of various jobs during the training period, and then being assigned to the IT department after half a year.

In short, if there is a formal reason for changing jobs, there is no problem with changing jobs in a short period of time.
Only in the case of negative reasons such as the work is boring, I don’t want to do overtime work, etc., the company will not hire people who leave the job for a short period of time.

Some people immediately change jobs to achieve success

I want to quit because my job doesn’t suit me, I have to work a lot of overtime, etc., but I’ve only been with the company for half a year.

I want to change jobs, but I don’t know if another company will hire me…

In fact, there are many people who have changed jobs to the next company due to negative reasons.

In the results, they were able to solve their worries, or get the conditions they want.

The following two characteristics can be raised by those who can succeed.

If the person’s market value is high and many companies want that person.

If they can explain the reason for changing jobs properly and the interviewer is convinced.

In order to succeed in changing jobs, be sure to clearly communicate the reason for your immediate resignation during the interview.

Please tell them the reason honestly without lying.

Analyze why you wanted to quit and why you can’t continue to work, and tell the interviewer what you can do to avoid quitting too soon after joining the company.

If the interviewer is convinced, it is very likely that you will be hired.

In the first place, you have only worked for half a year after changing jobs, so you can’t judge whether this job is suitable for you or whether it is worthwhile.

When you change jobs, everything will be new, so you will need to remember the new rules of the company as well as the new job description.

It takes about a year to get used to the new company.

Once you get used to your work, you will have a little more leeway and your work will become easier and more enjoyable.

So, if you feel that your job doesn’t suit you after changing jobs, try working hard for at least a year.

It’s been less than a year since you joined the company.

However, if you continue to work as it is, you may not be able to advance your career or become depressed.

If you are looking for early retirement, please consult with a career change agent.

To succeed in changing jobs

After changing jobs, it would be better to try working for about a year.

As you become accustomed to your work, you may make various discoveries, or you may come to like your work.

There is no company that matches all conditions such as annual income, work content, work-life balance, etc. If you give priority to one of them, one will disappear.

Decide what you want to solve most by changing jobs, and what conditions you can compromise on.

Instead of taking all the conditions, you can succeed in changing jobs by taking the conditions with the highest priority.
