Mr. C has passed the JLPT N2 and uses Japanese at work as a bilingual engineer.
Those who studied Japanese at university or use Japanese at work certainly have a high level of Japanese and a high job offer rate.
Conversely, those who have never used Japanese before but passed N2 also have a high job offer rate. The reason for this is that in some cases, they are judged to have high motivation to continue self-study and to be able to make a proper effort.

① About age
Mr. C is in his early 20s. His personality is very calm. Although he is still in his 20s and does not have many years of experience, he is a hard worker who is actively learning about IT and constantly updating his knowledge.
What is the age of the target audience that the company is looking for?
To be honest, for those under 24 years old, the employment rate is low unless their Japanese level is very high, such as N2 or higher.
This is because there are many cases where applicants are rejected due to insufficient skills. However, there are cases where applicants under the age of 24 can receive job offers.
We will explain in detail later.
② Skills / years of experience
Mr. C has less than two years of experience.
He also did not major in IT at university, so he did not learn IT until after he started working, but he was able to successfully receive a job offer.
Why did I receive a job offer even though I had less than two years of experience?
It was because of my high Japanese language ability and the fact that even after 2 years, I was still learning about IT every day and constantly inputting new technologies.
Even though my years of experience are short, I can tell in the interview that I am learning about IT every day and that I can catch up on what I did not learn about IT in college even after joining the company.
Because of my high Japanese level, I was able to tell them how I would learn and how I could contribute to the company in the future.
How many years of experience does the company have in the target population it seeks?
If you are aiming for a high annual salary, you need to have at least 7 years of work experience. you can apply for a position if you have at least 1 year of experience, but your employment rate will be lower.
As I mentioned earlier, even if you have only one year of work experience, your employment rate will increase if you have the Japanese language skills to convey how you have contributed to your current position, how you can contribute to the Japanese company, and how you are making efforts to contribute.
As I said, a conversational level of JLPT N2 or higher is essential.
③ Japanese language level
Mr. C’s Japanese language ability is high, and his speaking speed is just right and easy to understand.
He also uses simple words in conversation, which is common among those who have passed N2 or N1, and tends to use difficult words in conversation.
However, even we Japanese use simple words as much as possible when we speak.
This is because the purpose of conversation is to communicate, and the purpose of conversation is to convey what you want to say, and using difficult words is meaningless if the other person cannot understand you.
Mr. C has N2, but he was able to have a conversation using words that were easy for the other person to understand (simple words).
What is the target Japanese language proficiency required by the company?
If you can speak in a way that is easy to understand, using simple words and speaking at a slow speed, like Mr. C, you do not need N2.
Even if you pass N1, it is meaningless if you cannot communicate, and even if you only have N5, you can work in Japan if you can speak fluently.
I would like to reiterate this point because it is important, but the important thing is to communicate with Japanese people, not to pass N1.
To do so, you need to use words that are easy for them to understand, pronounce them well, and communicate at a slow speed.
Of course, if you have passed N1 and can speak Japanese well, the offer rate is very high.
You can study Japanese that is not used on the JLPT or in interviews, and that you will never learn at school or in textbooks, but that Japanese people use every day.
④ Character / Personality
Mr. C’s personality is very calm and collected.
Because of his calmness, his speaking speed is slow and easy to understand.
He is also very polite. She greeted people properly and was considerate to others.
Japan has a culture where greetings and consideration are very important. However, there are many people who work in Japan for the first time or have never worked with Japanese people who do not yet know how to be considerate.
Among them, Ms. C was able to show proper consideration for others.
Since she works with Japanese people in her job, she was able to learn about their culture in Japan.
He said that he learned what he needed to work in Japan not only through practice but also through Youtube.
Learning not only the Japanese language but also what is necessary to work in Japan and what you need to know is one of the winning factors for getting the job offer.
What is the personality of the target person that the company wants to hire?
During the interview, they will not only look at your Japanese language ability, skills, and experience, but they will also check whether you can be polite and considerate to others.
This does not mean that you just need to talk about your past experiences in Japanese.
For example, if you cannot look the other person in the eye while speaking, or if you move your body unconsciously or yawn while speaking, you will not be hired.

⑤ Willingness to Change Jobs / Actions
Mr. C was quick to respond and replied to my agent’s calls and questions the same day.
She was always in touch with the agent and was never out of touch for a couple of days.
We support people living abroad and cannot meet candidates in person or talk to them on the phone.
What connects us is our mutual trust. If we are not able to contact a candidate for a number of days, we may wonder, “Is this person really coming to Japan?” and we will not be able to provide any support from our agents.
We should always be able to communicate with each other since we are both abroad.
What kind of people do companies want to hire?
One of the questions you are always asked in an interview is, “Why did you apply to our firm?”
The meaning of this question is: Why did you choose this company over other similar companies? This is what I mean.
From the applicant’s perspective, he/she takes the company because it can utilize his/her current work experience, has a good salary, offers many holidays per year, and has a good benefits package, and any company is fine as long as the salary is high and the benefits package is good.
But even if that is the case, what the company expects from applicants is that they make an effort to find out why they chose this company and not another.
Researching the company you are applying to is essential in the job search process. Or rather, it is a manner.
If you fail to research the company, you will be judged as having poor manners and will not be accepted.
You can get a job offer by clearly telling the interviewer why you want to work for this company, while also comparing other companies.
What did we do to get the offer?
◆Interview Preparation
I taught her to start with the answer to the question (conclusion) and then give specific examples when telling something.
Mr. C’s Japanese was very good, but he did not give the answer to the question easily and talked about something unrelated to the answer.
Without a conclusion, Japanese people would ask, “What is the conclusion? What do you want to say after all?” I think.
If you don’t know what you want to say in the end, you will be judged as not being able to communicate and your chances of being rejected will increase.
Therefore, I made it a rule to convey the conclusion first as much as possible.
◆Japanese Lesson
Since Mr. C had passed JLPT N2, his Japanese was always very good, so we did not pay special attention to him.
His speaking style was good, and his speaking speed and tone of voice were near perfect.
However, as mentioned above, if you don’t start with the conclusion of the interviewer’s question, the answer to the question will not be clear, and the interviewer will think that you are talking too long. So, I think it is better to tell the interviewer’s questions to Japanese people than to Japanese people at the Japanese level.
Therefore, I taught him how to communicate with Japanese people rather than his Japanese level.
In other words, even if you have JLPT N5 or N4, if you speak in a way that is easy to convey to the Japanese people, they will understand you better and you will receive a job offer.
In fact, there have been cases where people who had passed N4 received job offers because they mastered how to communicate to Japanese people.
